Lisa Alvarado is an artist and musician based in Chicago.  Since 2010, she plays harmonium in the band  Natural Information Society and stages her free-hanging paintings in performace.

Alvarado has exhibited most recently in her solo show  Sound Talisman at Bridget Donahue, New York; in group exhibitions  The Freedom principle: Experiments in Art and Music, 1965 to Now,   The Institute of Contemporary Art Philadelphia & the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago;  Material Issue, KMAC Museum and in a forthcoming show at Mary Mary Gallery, Glasgow.

Alvarado’s work has been included in Mousse Magazine; The New York Times; Brooklyn Rail; Frieze Magazine; Art Record Covers, Taschen books; The Freedom Principle: Experiments in Art and Music, 1965 to Now, University of Chicago Press + others.

Alvarado has performed with  Natural Information Society in numerous venues including Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Portugal;  Kaleidophon Festival, Austria;  FIMAV, Canada; in works by Theaster Gates including  12 Ballads for Huguenot House, Documenta 13; as well as in a play by Simon Starling  At Twilight, Japan Society, New York & Common Guild, Glasgow.  NIS releases albums on Eremite Records, Drag City RecordsTak:til/Glitterbeat Records.
